Frequently Asked Questions
How do I correctly locate a secondary cleaner when it is installed in a conveyor chute?
Problem: Unfortunately, in many cases chutes are not designed or built to allow for the correct installation of one or more belt cleaners. This is particularly true when locating a secondary cleaner in a position just off the head pulley. When inspecting the conveyor site to determine if a secondary cleaner can be installed in a tight chute area, two factors must be considered:
- Distance off the head pulley.
- More importantly, distance from the back of the cleaner blades and/or pole to the rear chute wall.
A cleaner installed too close to the rear chute wall will permit material buildup which can (a) cause chute blockage, and (b) decrease cleaner efficiency as material builds up around the cleaner.
Solution: All Flexco secondary cleaners must be installed no closer than 4" from the point where the belt leaves the head pulley. To prevent material buildup inside the chute, allow a minimum distance of 6" to 8" from any part of the cleaner (tips, pole, etc.) to the rear chute wall.
Handy Hint: A UHMW sheet attached to the chute backer improves the material flow, reducing the chances of clogging the chute.
